Some Little-Known Miracles of Jesus (예수님의 잘 안 알려진 기적 몇몇)
At home bible study we are tracing and studying the life of Jesus, with the aid of the book “How Christ Walked on Earth” by Hong-Chun Kim (in Korean).
Recently we studied the miracle of Jesus walking on water (John 6:16–21). I was well aware of the story, but this time a detail that I didn’t notice before came to my attention (pointed out by Rev. Kim, the author of the above mentioned book):
Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going. — John 6:21 (ESV, emphasis mine)
So, astonished by the scene they just saw, the diciples couldn’t even notice the boat moving and they arrived at the shore. This is indeed another miracle that was present there.
I think apostle John was very sensitive, recording details that shows important facts about Christ. Another detail that I never noticed before, but quite recently realized that it was there (again pointed out by Rev. Kim), is the miracle that was present at the night when Jesus was arrested:
Then Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, “Whom do you seek?” They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. When Jesus said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. — John 18:4–6 (ESV, emphasis mine)
(By the way, the Greek text writes “I am” for Jesus’ answer, without ‘he’ at the end.) The soldiers were in fear. When Jesus said “I am” their legs could not sustain them. The divinity of Christ was present, and the soldiers shook in front of it. But as they slowly realized that Jesus would not resist, quiet “like a sheep before its shearers,” the soldiers became violent.
The miracles above are just a part of the evidence that Jesus is the one who Moses prophesized about:
“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen” — Deuteronomy 18:15 (ESV, emphasis mine)
Indeed, God confirmed this:
And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” — Mark 9:7 (ESV, emphasis mine)
The Father has made His beloved Son the king of all creation; What God has established, no one can undo; so kiss the Son!
Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
“Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
“As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.”I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, “You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
Serve the Lord with fear,
and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.— Psalm 2 (ESV)
